Definition of statistics on Wateroffice
The statistics on Wateroffice are calculated from historical water level or discharge at the selected hydrometric monitoring station.
For a given day in a given year, the daily mean water level or discharge value is calculated by averaging all the data points over the 24 hour period. Exceptions may apply when data are flagged with symbols.
For a given month in a given year, the monthly mean water level or discharge value is calculated by averaging all the historical daily water level or discharge values for the month. The monthly mean is not calculated when one or more daily mean values are missing.
Statistics for period of record
The Mean for a period of record is calculated based on daily or monthly values
The daily mean for a period of record is the average of all published historical daily mean values for a given day. For example, the daily mean for a period of record for January 1st is calculated by averaging all published January 1st daily mean values for a given station and parameter. The daily mean for a period of record can be displayed on the real-time and historical graphs.
The monthly mean for a period of record is the average of all published historical monthly mean values for a given month. For example, the monthly mean for a period of record for January is calculated by averaging all published January monthly mean values for a given station and parameter. The monthly mean for a period of record can only be displayed on historical graphs.
The Minimum for a period of record is calculated based on daily or monthly values
The daily minimum for a period of record is the minimum of all published historical daily mean values for a given day. For example, the daily minimum for a period of record for January 1st is the minimum of all published January 1st daily mean values for a given station and parameter. The daily minimum for a period of record can be displayed on the real-time and historical graphs.
The monthly minimum for a period of record is the minimum of all published historical monthly mean values for a given month. For example, the monthly minimum for a period of record for January is the minimum of all published January monthly mean values for a given station and parameter. The monthly minimum for a period of record can only be displayed on historical graphs.
The Maximum for a period of record is calculated based on daily or monthly values
The daily maximum for a period of record is the maximum of all published historical daily mean values for a given day. For example, the daily maximum for a period of record for January 1st is the maximum of all published January 1st daily mean values for a given station and parameter. The daily maximum for a period of record can be displayed on the real-time and historical graphs.
The monthly maximum for a period of record is the maximum of all published historical monthly mean values for a given month. For example, the monthly maximum for a period of record for January is the maximum of all published January monthly mean values for a given station and parameter. The monthly maximum for a period of record can only be displayed on historical graphs.
The Median, Lower Quartile and Upper Quartile for a period of record are calculated based on daily or monthly values
The daily median for a period of record is the middle value in a dataset where all published daily mean values have been arranged in numerical order so that exactly half the daily mean values are above the median and half are below it. The daily median for a period of record can be displayed on the real-time and historical graphs.
The monthly median for a period of record is the middle value in a dataset where all published monthly mean values have been arranged in numerical order so that exactly half of the monthly mean values are above the median and half are below it. The monthly median for a period of record can only be displayed on historical graphs.
The daily lower quartile for a period of record is the middle daily mean value in a dataset where all published daily mean values have been arranged in numerical order so that 25% of the daily mean values are smaller than the lower quartile and 75% are larger. The daily lower quartile for a period of record can be displayed on the real-time and historical graphs.
The monthly lower quartile for a period of record is the middle monthly mean value in a dataset where all published monthly mean values have been arranged in numerical order so that 25% of the monthly mean values are smaller than the lower quartile and 75% are larger. The monthly lower quartile for a period of record can only be displayed on historical graphs.
The daily upper quartile for a period of record is the middle daily mean value in a dataset where all published daily mean values have been arranged in numerical order so that 75% of the daily mean values are smaller than the lower quartile and 25% are larger. The daily upper quartile for a period of record can be displayed on the real-time and historical graphs.
The monthly upper quartile for a period of record is the middle daily mean value in a dataset where all published monthly mean values have been arranged in numerical order so that 75% of the monthly mean values are smaller than the lower quartile and 25% are larger. The monthly upper quartile for a period of record can only be displayed on historical graphs.
